Chi town results

So after a quick trip to Chicago for the annual super tour we have returned with some promising results. Miss Annie Frenette came away with the big win in the J1 women's class and pocketed some big prize money for herself. In the J1 boys class Luke Daniels had a good first jump but could not repeat on the second attempt and finished 8th while Miles Lussi followed up 10 points behind him in 10th, Chis Rydel 13th, Nate Capone 17th, and Sam Shapiro 18th.

In the open class we saw Mike Glasder take a easy win before he heads over to Sweden with Casey and the other boys to test their skills in a FIS cup. Zach Daniels had a nice weekend and finished a respectable 2nd with Spencer Knickerbocker dealing with a injury from the half marathon and a bit of a cold came in 6th.

16 hours later...

We arrive in Fox River Grove, Illinois. After a blistering van ride filled with many hours of T.V. shows, gaming, sleeping, and some quality team bonding. We had our first jump sessions today on Norge's K70. Some respectable jumps were taken and luckily no skis made it down the landing into the Ginormous Crowd... that was not existent today. The jump sessions were followed by some crazy jetskiing led by Zach and Spence. The record speed was set by Zach at 65 mph while Spence lagged at a respectable 57 mph. After our delicious dinner some great achievments were made in the NYSEF study hall... well some of us anyway. Tomorrow we have two more jumping sessions and hopefully watch some sweet rides on the artificial knoll on the K25. And until next time here's a pic of Spence living the dream in the van.

Grasshoppers Crush NE Summer SJ/NC Champs!

Team Grasshop piled in the Sprinter during the wee hours Sunday, bound for Storrs Hill. Blessed with plastic from a former life on the Lake Placid K90, the K25 in Lebanon NH shows true signs of character. These include, but are certainly not limited to:
  • No snazzy porcelain track
  • Bumpy landing hill due to a 2x4" retaining system
  • Some (read: lots) of organic matter poking up through the plastic

Convinced that good training and competition on this hill would make 'em all a whole lot tougher, Team Grasshop put up a heck of a fight against some of the top Master's jumpers on the East coast. Following a trial and two-to-count event on the hill, the Hoppers then swarmed the streets of Lebanon, negotiating a hilyl 1.4 mile run course to determine who would don the olive wreath as 2011 NE Nordic Combined champion.

All athletes did an excellent job on a spankin' new hill for 'em--kudos. New skills in the bag. And just wait for winter!

Grasshoppers Make Headlines. Sweet!

Two great reads on fasterskier.com, the premier national XC racing website, on the NYSEF Grasshopper Program, and reporter Nat Herz' own foray into jumping! Great articles, awesome photos of our crew. Links below:

As AJ King was so eloquently quoted by Nat, “Everybody’s cheering you on, [you] get in the newspaper, on the news, go really far, and stuff. Win money, and have fun!" Those could be the new Grasshopper Program bylaws!

Eye of the Tiger. To the beat of Grasshopper.

Watch this video. Then ask yourself: "Is there any reason why I wouldn't ever want to go to Grasshopper Camp?!"

Kudos to Grasshopper Coach Tara Geraghty-Moats for putting this awesome video together!

Dion Cup Trip: September 12th

Dear Grasshopper,

Do you ever feel like you're stuck in this dead end town? Jumping the K18 getting a tad bit stale? Feel like you need to throw caution to the wind, cut your ties, and hit the road with Coach Bliss? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then you'll love coming with us to the

Dion Cup Competition 2010
