Team Grasshopper Winter Competition Schedule
Below you'll find the Team Grasshopper 2010/2011 Winter Competition schedule. These are all the Jumping/NC and XC events that Grasshopper athletes have the option of attending this winter. By no means are athletes obligated to attend all or most of these events; this is simply the whole menu that they can choose from.
The Grasshopper Program is designed to give young athletes an awesome introduction to ski jumping. Hitting the road and tossing on a bib is only part of the bigger picture, so take a look at the schedule with your parents/athletes, and circle events that look like fun and coincide with your winter plans.
Events are marked as Jumping/NC Competitions or as XC Races.
Be in touch with any and all questions!

Practice Starts Tuesday, 11/30!
Howdy Team Grasshop:
You'd best be praying for snow, turkey, and for practice to start. In that order! In fact, we've got control of some of this business. We'll get some turkey sent your way, start the storm clouds rumblin', and.... you guessed it....
Practice for all NYSEF XC and SJ programs will be held Tuesday and Thursday or next week (11/30 and 12/2) from 3:15-4:30 at the Upper Parking Lot of the Jumps.
Bring your running shoes, a water bottle, some extra layers, and a thirst to get Winter 2010/2011 underway!
Last, we know you've been bored silly since practice has been non-existent for the past few weeks. So take a look at the new video from trials rider Danny MacAskill, sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
See you there--

Bored? Then Learn to Fly this Winter!
You asked, "Will the crazy-cool Learn 2 Fly Wednesday Program be back this winter??"
We replied, "Was Pete Frenette the 2-time 2010 National Champion? Did Bill Demong win a gold medal? You bet it's coming back. And it's gonna be awesome!"
Program Highlights:
- $5 Learn to Fly Wednesdays* during the month of January. (5th, 12th, 19th, 26th)
- Snacks, cocoa.
- Awesome new CrazyFalcon skis & Germina boots, purchased from generous support from the Uihlein Foundation & the Lake Placid Ski Club.
- Crazy cool coaching staff.
- That's about all. But did we mention that Bill Demong and Pete Frenette grew up on this hill? Yeah, we're talking about an Olympic Gold Medalist and Current 2x US National Champ. We also mentioned snacks. And cocoa!
So tell your friends! Cause jumping and nordic combined ruuulleeez.

*Learn 2 Fly Wednesdays are geared specifically towards newcomers to the sport of ski jumping. As such, our $5/session deal is only valid for young athletes in their first year of jumping. All others are welcome to take part in any of our Grasshopper training sessions at the NYSEF coaching rate of $25/session.
Winter training is underway...
.... for Grasshopper Alex Hohman, that is!
An alpine ski racer as well as an up-and-coming NC phenom, Alex set his sights on the Whiteface Toll Road this past weekend for some early season freshies. Hiking up solo both days, he enjoyed 12" of the fresh, and snapped a few of these pics on the way up.
I asked Alex, "how many other J4's did you bump up to up there?"
He replied: "None. But that's fine. That just means that there's more gnar for me, and a heckuva lot less for them!"
Way to rip, Alex!
