Update from NYSEF World Junior Crew in Europa... Frenette Thwarts German Über Sweep!

NYSEF Head-Coach Casey Colby provided us with fine updates from the US World Junior Ski Jumping squad while tuning up for the big show with some FIS Cups in Lauscha, Germany. Not far from Hinterzarten, where the WJC events will be held, the above picture shows the rad complex.

It was NYSEF's own Pete Frenette and Andrew Bliss who headlined the US squad and prevented the Germans from barnstorming the two events on their home hills. On day one, Bliss and Frenette both improved on their first round efforts to land in 14th and 2nd, respectfully. Without Frenette demonstrating the from which landed him a spot on the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Team, the Germans would have locked up places 1-6. Mission accomplished.

On day two, colder temperatures and tailwind made finding the sweet spot more difficult, yet it was again Bliss and Frenette who held strong to qualify for the second round. Bliss squirmed on his first jump coming in 23rd, but kept it locked and cocked during round two to slide up to 18th overall. Pete again was sitting pretty in 2nd place after round one, but slipped to 4th in the final tally.

Make sure to root for our boys over in Europe, they'll be battling the best juniors in the world starting tomorrow and, based on these FIS cups, they're poised to haul some hardware back to LP.

Results for the World Junior Championships can be found here: http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/604/1228.html?event_id=27204&cal_suchsector=JP

In the meantime, whip up a sandwich with some Black Forest ham, and rock out to the Official Song of the 2010 World Juniors. A masterpiece of German theater.
