Domination.

A quick dig back through the archives yielded this epic video of former NYSEF SJ/NC coach Matt Cook dominating pond skimming at Whiteface. And you thought a ski jumping career could only bring you pride and glory on the World Cup? Wrong. So wrong.

Yo Grasshoppers: Wanna Ski Jump Down Under??

Well, pretty soon... you can!

Remember Nat Herz, the reporter who attended Grasshopper Camp #3? He just wrote a great article on Australian up-and-coming Nordic Combined star Ben Sim. Ben, already a promising athlete on the World Cup XC circuit, threw on some jump skis in Germany last spring. Turns out, he had a knack for it! Now, with a grant from the FIS, he's training in Park City and hopes to someday bring ski jumping and nordic combined back to ski areas in Australia!

The goal is to create world-class facilities, like ours, at several ski areas in Australia and to turn the Land Down Under into a skispringen mecca!

Make sure to check back to www.fasterskier.com often, becasue Nat is writing a story on Grasshopper Camp! He's going to let those kick-and-gliders know just how rad our sport is, and just how folks can get started. Saw-eeeet!

"Hey Grasshopper, don't be crazy. High, wobbly inrun positions are out. Low, balanced inrun positions are in. Wanna boost during the next Grasshopper Comp? Then check out this video of Kamil Stoch, winner of the FIS Summer Grand Prix in Wisla, Poland!"

That is all. You may now return to your regularly scheduled programing.

Grasshopper Camp 3 Wrap-Up

Our final Grasshopper Camp of the season ended in style. After three action-packed days which included a rollerski clinic with NYSEF XC Coach Margaret Maher, six jump sessions on the K18, lunch atop the K120, a hangout sesh and lunch at Mirror Lake, K90 landing hill rides and Saturday Series spectating, and a kickin' Tele-Tournee, it's safe to say that every athlete (and coach) got their fill!

Congrats to NYSEF's Alex Hohman for further padding his comfortable lead on the Tele-Tournee standings, and on taking the Aiden Daniels designed Grasshopper Cup back home to Queensbury. The weekend was further highlighted by many first leaps off the K-18, stylish telemark landings, and personal bests achieved. A hearty congratulations to all 2010 Grasshopper Camp participants! We have plenty more Saturday sessions on tap, but as the weather turns cooler, we'll all be looking towards a great winter season and a busy Eastern Jumping Calendar.

In the meantime, practice those immo's and we'll see you on the hill!

NYSEF SJ/NC Exclusive: NH ski jumper saves a life!

NH master's jumper Dr. John Conley saves an 86 year old woman who drove her Buick into a lake. John witnessed the driver exit a Dunkin Donuts and promptly drive into a lake. According to John who happened to be kayaking nearby:

"I smashed the back window with a leatherman tool which was worthless, because she was sitting in the front seat! I went around, and the driver's side window was open! I could see her in there, and I couldn't get her out. On the third time down, I had her by the arm and got her out .... It was an episode of Mythbusters where they tested the myth where you can't open the door where the car is sinking, and that's true. "

Moral of the story? Quick acting, fast twitch ski jumpers can save lives!
